Kerala High Court On Girls Hostel Curfew Timing Says Men Create Problem Give Girl Freedom


Kerala High Court On Hostel Curfew: The Kerala High Court on Wednesday (December 7) questioned why only girls and women are banned from going out at night. Also, asked the state government to ensure that they too should get the same freedom as boys and men.

Justice Dewan Ramachandran said that there is no need to be afraid of the night and the government should ensure that it is safe for everyone to move out after dark. The court made this comment during the hearing on a petition by five girl students of Kozhikode Medical College. Through the petition, the government order of 2019 has been challenged, in which the exit of girls living in the hostels of higher educational institutions was banned after 9.30 pm.

The court questioned during the hearing of the subject that why only women or girls need to be controlled, why not boys and men. Also, why was the ban on going out after 9.30 pm for the girls living in the hostels of the Medical College.

‘Problems are created by men’

The High Court said, “Girls also have to live in this society. Will there be a big crisis after 9.30 pm? It is the responsibility of the government to keep the campus safe.” The court asked whether there is any such hostel in the state where even boys are not allowed to step out. The court also said that problems are created by men who should be kept locked up.

Justice Ramachandran also said that some people say that he is questioning the restrictions because he does not have daughters. He said that some of his relatives are women and live in hostels in Delhi. She studies and such restrictions are not there. The court said, “We should not be afraid of the night. The freedom given to boys should also be given to girls.
